We had a chance to join street love for another time in Oct, and it is truly something we have been looking forward to. The world we live in seems so chaotic and hopeless sometimes, and it's great to be in a team that tries to make a difference.
We all met together, listened to the instructions and split into smaller teams.
One of the teams was chosen to drive through a close by neighborhood and to look for people that we could surprise with a full meal.
We met an over 80-year-old woman that doesn't have a home and tries to survive by selling different goods, pushing a heavy wagon around. It was really touching to hear a little bit about her life and it was priceless to see her smile as we gave her the food.
Moments like that are the reason we do street love. We want to show practical love to those in need.
As every month, we also met up in October for Character First. Over 40students gathered to learn more about a secret characteristic. After an intense ice - breaker of "ship and sailor", we heard that character is something everybody can develop.
Next we saw an empty cup (representing our life) filled with colorful paper pieces (that stand for the encouragement, time, knowledge... others have invested in us). We all understood that we wouldn't be who and where we are without the input of others.
Then, Quy revealed the topic to us: HUMILITY - acknowledging the investment of others in our life.
We learned that a humble person changes his/her thinking from ME to WE.
That leads us to
+ open our eyes to the investment of others and to start praising them
+ begin to serve without being recognized
+ accept criticism and compliments
+ know that we don't know everything but can learn from others.
We finished by writing cards to people we wanted to say thank you to, or even sorry in case we took their investment for granted or to write down a compliment.
After another game and some snacks character first was over.
Or should we say we changed from theory to living what we learned in our daily lives.
“Be more concerned about your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are while your reputation is merely what other think you are.” That’s why character is so important. For this reason, Sozo has a workshop called Character First per month in order to share with you how to improve our character.
For past few years, we have had teams who had been trained by professional trainers to work hard and prepare for this workshop. And… now is the time for next generation. We would love to involve more our young volunteers in Character First teams. Hence, Sozo had run a training day to equip the volunteers before they step into the real work.
All important information about Character First, working in a team, creative and fun ways to present… was given to the trainees. Our volunteers were ready J
You did and will see their amazing work in our Character First workshop.
